Inscription: 'Rembrandt. f / 1638' printed in ink, upper left. The NGV watermark-research page (https://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/explore/collection/conservation/watermarks-rembrandt/) independently lists this work under 'Arms of Ravensburg'. This is the single clearest institutional statement of the state count: '2nd of 4 states'.
