The RembrandtOpen Impression Project

Field notes

What turned up along the way

Some findings are too long for a claim and too specific for a teaching module: the afternoon spent establishing that four catalogues disagree, the exercise of putting eight institutional images side by side and discovering what the comparison cannot settle. These are those. They argue, they are signed by the project rather than by an institution, and every assertion in them links back to the record it came from.

These are not announcements and there is nothing to subscribe to. A note is written when something is actually found, which means the gap between them is honest information about how the research is going.

The load-bearing version of any finding lives on the record itself — as a claim with its evidence, or as an open question with what would resolve it. If a note and the record disagree, the record is right and the note is out of date; tell us and it is corrected in the changelog.
